The Vilamoura Lawn
Bowls Club was established in 1993 and actually has about 24 members all year
round, some Portuguese, but mainly British living in the Algarve, plus circa 30
bowlers who come to the Algarve for a long stay in winter time. The Club hosted
the European Championships in 2003. There are two championship size greens
(fourteen rinks in all) with natural grass (Penn cross creeping bent grass
Agrostis stolonifera) from Oregon State University USA. The greens are in
pleasant surroundings with flowers, shrubs and trees. There is an attractive
bar/snack bar situated in an open space with a car park, where light meals can
be served as well as hot and cold drinks. There are open competitions every
Tuesday, Friday and Sunday which you can enter at no extra cost. All hotels and
aparthotels are rated four stars and situated in Vilamoura (the biggest holiday
resort in Europe) just minutes away from the marina and its shops, bars,
supermarkets and restaurants. The Casino with its international floorshow and
